IAPEN – National Conference on Nutritional Management in Organ Failure and Transplantation, 19th April, 2014, Bangalore, Karnataka, India
The national conference on nutritional management in organ failure and transplantation is hosted and organised by IAPEN Bangalore regional chapter in partnership with Global Integrated liver care program, BGS Global Hospital, Bangalore on 19th April at seminar hall, 5th floor, BGS Global Hospital, Bangalore, India.
Nutrition is an integral part of healing and maintenance of health. Poor nutritional status in pre, peri and post-operative surgical patients leads to less than optimal outcomes. Nutrition intervention is necessary for treatment of solid organ/s failure and transplant patients. Prior to transplantation, patients if not properly managed can suffer from certain degree and type of malnutrition and are at high risk for nutritionally-mediated complications.
In addition, malnutrition may contribute to increased morbidity through its effects on immune function, post surgical infection, requirement of ventilator support, increased length of stay in the ICU and delayed wound healing. Although other factors influence post transplant outcomes, nutritional status is the only reversible factor. This conference of IAPEN will provide such a forum for multidisciplinary interaction on transplant nutrition.
There will be an interactive session on “Planning nutrition intervention for transplant patients”. The plenary talks include overview of disease leading to end stage organ failure, Pre, acute post transplant and long term post transplant nutritional management, Nutritional monitoring post transplant, transplantation and Immune nutrition, case studies, food etc.,
This conference, being first in the series of learning initiative on Nutritional management in Solid organ Failure and Transplantation will be focussing on Nutritional management of Liver and kidney failure, Transplantation of liver, kidney and Bone Marrow in adults. Hence the theme chosen for the conference is “Nutritional interventions in organ failure and transplantation – Challenges and solutions”
